In Loving Memory of Kayden
Our beloved Kayden passed away on July 16, 2020. He was about 15 years old. He was an exceedingly handsome beagle, with oversized soft ears, lanky legs, and a loping walk. He had a calm and thoughtful expression – always alert in his quiet way. He was self-possessed.
He did not have an easy life. Rescued as a stray in Philadelphia, only Kayden knew his history. He carried some memories with him. If someone threw fast food leftovers in the bushes in our neighborhood, he knew exactly what they were. During his time with us, he endured neurological degeneration. Through all, he had a remarkable will – always looking forward to the next meal or walk, or for his humans to sit beside him.
Rosie was his companion. They were old together, snuggling pretty much everywhere – dog beds, couches, or the deck. They worked as a team. One would let the other do the daily work of nudging me to cook for them, because each one trusted the other to get me into the kitchen.
They took care of me during my own big transitions – book writing, retirement, and hip replacement surgeries. During the months of my surgeries, when I slept in the living room to avoid climbing stairs, Kayden and Rosie trotted in after me every evening. They were my best friends. They had a book dedicated to them. Well, they were really co-authors.
Our family sincerely thanks Nittany Beagle Rescue and Centre Animal Hospital for their dedication and compassion.
Loving Kayden has been our great joy. He was our sweetheart. We will love you forever Kayden!
