In Memory

In Loving Memory of Baxter

We lost Baxter at age 16 in June 2013, seven years after adopting him from PAWS. Bax came to us at the age of nine, but he still had the energy of a puppy -- dragging us on walks, stealing cornbread off the Thanksgiving table, and howling at pedestrians who dared to walk on the sidewalk in front of his fence!

I remember the first night I had him at home. I didn't particularly want him sleeping in our bed, but he had other plans, as he leaped onto the mattress and stretched himself across the sheets. When I tried to move him, I got the trademark Baxter lip curl and growl. So I slowly slid into the bed, hoping that I wouldn't wake up with an angry Bax gnawing on my toes. But when I arose the next morning, he was on the pillow beside me with his front paws on my chest, almost like he was giving me a hug and saying, "Thank you for giving me a new home."

There was never a dull moment, even in his later years. We miss him terribly, but he was a special friend who will always have a place in our hearts and our memories.

Losing a beloved pet is so very hard on all of us. They have given us so much love through the years when they were with us here on earth and now we live with their wonderful memories.

Tax-deductible donations of $25.00 can be made in memory of a beloved pet. By memorializing your pet or a friend's or family member's pet in this way, you help Nittany Beagle Rescue give beagles who are in shelters or with owners who can no longer keep them a second chance at a wonderful life.
