In Memory
Sammie the Jack Russell Terrier (Honorary Beagle)
Sammie was quite the character and is sadly missed by everyone who knew him - especially by his guardian, Bobbi Leitzell. Bobbi is Nittany Beagle Rescue's president and stills shares her life and home with Sammie's rescued beagle sisters, Ellie, Dora and Libby.
Sammie was almost 14 years old at the time of his passing (February 22, 2007), and he never slowed down until about 2 weeks before he had to be put to rest. It was so incredible how the girls took turns sitting by him while he rested on his big pillow on the floor. Dora, who is around 6 years old, placed three of her favorite toys by his pillow, and she never touched them until he was gone. She was offering him comfort by giving him her toys. When Libby would get up from lying in front of or beside Sam's pillow, Ellie would soon take over the vigil. It was heartwarming to watch.
Sammie will always be remembered for licking the heat/air grate on the kitchen floor. He will also be remembered by many for his antics in his swimming pool. His favorite activity was jumping around in circles trying to catch the waves. The neighbors will surely remember Sammie! Every time a car went by he would strain on his leash and lunge to try to get the passing car. The list of Sammie memories goes on and on! Despite his high energy (and slightly naughty streak), anyone who has ever shared their life with a JRT knows that they are loyal to their family and their person until the end. And little Sam was just that.
Our little boy is missed for now, but someday we will meet again.
Losing a beloved pet is so very hard on all of us. They have given us so much love through the years when they were with us here on earth and now we live with their wonderful memories.
Tax-deductible donations of $25.00 can be made in memory of a beloved pet. By memorializing your pet or a friend's or family member's pet in this way, you help Nittany Beagle Rescue give beagles who are in shelters or with owners who can no longer keep them a second chance at a wonderful life.
