Lucy was a true gift who graced this earth for 14 wonderful years. We rescued her when she was just about a year old from horrible pound in Ohio with only days before they were going to put her down. Thankfully, she got to live the next 13 years surrounded by unconditional love, joy, and a family that adored her.

Lucy was full of personality, stubborn as can be, fiercely independent, and completely uninterested in anyone who didn’t have food, a leash, or the good sense to leave her be. And yet, she was also the most loyal, loving, beautiful, and protective companion we could have ever asked for.

She shared an especially strong bond with Dad, her constant companion and main caretaker. They did everything together. No matter the weather, freezing cold, snowstorms, or thunderstorms; Lucy made sure Dad was up at 4 a.m. sharp for their daily walk. Even in her final years, when her back legs could barely support her and her paws were raw, Dad would bandage them up so she could keep doing what she loved most: being by his side.

Lucy passed peacefully in her favorite spot on the couch, looking out the window that she loved so much. We take comfort in knowing she left us wrapped in the same love by God that she had known every day of her life.

She was happiness in dog form. We love you forever and always, LuLu.
